How do you feel about your (neighbour)hood? Name #top5features. Here are mine: Having found myself daily mingling with artificial people surrounded by criminal, wardrobe-sized apes I kind of stopped paying attention to what is truly cool here and started thinking of a new place. And that’s when it dawned on me that I love the place, the area, the air, the people here and plastic with apes is just a minor feature. It’s outstanding architecture - you’ll never get bored, even on your hundredth time here. Schechtel has contributed much to the local charm. It’s Patriarch’s Ponds with smelly water, wet, wild, unkempt lawn, dim lights, almost personal yellow benches, and endless charm. It’s Andrey playing the saxophone in the street at -15 C and turning it all into a fairy-tale. It’s Michelle Bakery with a mime, looking French, feeling nice, smelling good, carrying you into some French film. It’s a tender and authentic Parisienne shop with stunning Muhlbauer hats. It’s a vulgar, hellish Klava Bar, creating some buzz around but never ever to be visited, ever. It’s a killing Ess-Thetik with warm-hearted guys and treacherous Dunya, beware, the next morning is gonna suck, but it surely can be saved by the super-healthy mixes from Fresh. It’s a pretentious, but terribly tasty Uilliam’s (those with apes prevail here by the way). It’s an always welcoming and unpredictable Saxon&Parole with its wonderful mushroom pate, superb Manhattan, and a burger charging you with fuel for the next few days. It’s a crisp and fresh, friendly, not yet trite Pinch serving delicious soup with octopus ravioli and other gorgeously looking stuff. Definitely, it’s windows of Louboutin, Zanotti, Beryozka, Rehab, A LA RUSSE, and Katya Dobryakova. It’s overpriced ‘Soviet Union’ food shops without decent food but with charming 40+ shop assistants. It’s a shabby and old-fashioned Marco Polo Hotel saving your place from unwelcome visitors and morning embarrassment. It’s the air. Smiley, free, somewhat pretentious, safe, and vibrant.
