How do you get a humongous, heavy ass metal military footlocker, full of 30 yrs. worth of treasures out of your truck and into the house when youre alone, height challenged and have the stinking back from hell? Well, it takes some mild planning. The little sucker is bungeed in on both ends, cab to tailgate, handle is just out of your reach. Use that to your advantage. Unhook the cab end bungee, use the tailgate end bungee to pull it to you. (Thank goodness for plastic bedliners) Get it on the tailgate and test its weight. Hmmmm. I might could lift it off, but I aint gonna try. I dont fancy broken toes and bed rest for the next 3 days. Go get your keys, turn the truck around. Using your mirrors, back as close to the steps as possible, squeeze yourself out, be careful of the planter full of Pansies. Get it to the left side of the tailgate, while having the supervision of at least 3 cats and one nosy dog. Ease it down onto the porch, then sort out your screaming back, which will not let you move to an upright position for at least 2 minutes. Step into the laundry room, grab the towel you buffed the truck with Saturday, spread it out in the doorway, have an errant cat run through the open door, spinning her back tires as she makes the turn to the kitchen and balls it all up for you, as you are starting the final lift onto the towel, sort it all out again, while yelling at the offending feline, which of course, completely ignores you and your wishes for her to get back outside. Lastly, push it to the other end of the house, to its final destination at the foot of the spare bed. (another thank goodness-for hardwood floors.) My day is complete. :P
