How do you know you have a good veterinarian? Is being an animal lover the MOST important thing? #1 THEY HAVE A TRAINED STAFF. Having a pet hospital without trained technicians would be like having a people hospital without nurses. Impossible and not fully fuctional. #2 ITS CLEAN. All doctors know the importance of a clean work place. If they arent making sure the rooms the clients see are clean (like the reception area and exam rooms) can you imagine what the back treatment, surgery and kennel rooms look like? #3 THEY GO TO CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINARS AND PRACTICE THE MOST UP TO DATE PROTOCOLS. Sometimes you call for an appointment and the receptionist tells you her Dr isnt available because he is out of town at a meeting/seminar. Thats a good thing. It shows that the doctor cares about keeping his patients care current. Also being a member of AAHA, (The American Animal Hospital Association) is a good sign your vet is staying current on pain management, has the most up to date anesthesia protocols and has annual inspections. #4 THE OFFICE IS UP TO DATE. Are they computerized or still doing things the old way with lots of folders, papers and a pen? Computerized records are more efficient, save time, and keep your pets health records at the doctors fingertips. #5 CAN YOU GET ANSWERS AND TREATMENT FOR YOUR PET ALL IN THE SAME DAY? Most quality hospitals have at least some in house labs, X-ray machines and fully stocked pharmacies. Does your doctor?
