How do you read / interpret the Bible? Do you look at it - TopicsExpress

How do you read / interpret the Bible? Do you look at it literally or allegorically? While the Bible does use analogies, I tend to look at it in a literal sense. Heres an experiment to see where you fall. Read the small passage that talks about Pauls thorn. or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.. (1 Corinthians 12:7 NIV). If you tend to interpret the Bible and say that most of it is allegory, then the thorn might be a muscle spasm, pleurisy or something else. For me (and others), the thorn is a demon physically tormenting Paul, allowed by God. Most Christians in America take a naturalist view of the Word of God. Biology, chemistry, the environment, psychology, sociology and a slew of other ologies are the first things many of the faith gravitate to when finding explanations for the hard questions. Most dont even give credence to Ephesians 6:12 or give it an intellectual nod,..oh yes, we fight against Satan and his devils, now lets talk reality. I make this point because it has come to my attention that several in my circle are facing similar situations; incidences of demonic torment and oppression. We must look towards God through His Son, Jesus Christ to help us. We can no longer afford to say to ourselves, or to others yeah, evil exists, but it is way over here, when the eyes and hands of the things that utterly hate us are in our lives causing pain. Take the Bible literally and you will find your answers quite easily. Take the Bible allegorically and you will only find the answers of this world, an illusion of shadows.
