How does one deal with well off beggars? Last year, a guy in a nice truck throws a spiel on me at one gas station in town, needing cash for gas to get home... sorry all I have is a few quarters, the rest is on credit cards... See him again, at another station down the road, begging for money. Ok, cool, youre a hustler. 30 minutes later, see him in HEB pushing a buggy full of groceries... he saw me, and turned around, mid-aisle. Yesterday, filling up in Longview, and a well dressed guy pulls up on the other side of the pump, in a late model car, and starts a sob story... his momma wrecked his car (didnt see a scratch on it) and had massive head trauma. (so good, so far) His auntie lives just a few miles out of town, but she has muscular dystrophy and cant bring him some cash for gas. (sounds legit) Can I give him some cash for gas to get to Tyler? (ooopsies, your mom is in Longview hospital, wtf you want to go to Tyler, 45 miles away). Still pumping my gas, and look in his lap and see his Starbucks coffee and his Whataburger with fries. >>>sorry Charlie, dont have any spare cash. Note to Panhandlers... get a wreck, not a new car, act traumatized, dont talk so fast, get your story straight, and dont have high dollar products in your hand while talking (arent Starbuck large coffees like 5 bucks or so???) Now, if I saw the same guy, broke down on the side of the road, Id be inclined to help, at least if it were out in the country *in a dead wireless reception area*. Id at least call 911 and let em know someone needed a tow. Sorry, but I have little to spare, to give to those with newer cars, better clothes, and eating better than me. Am I wrong?
