How has American foreign policy (of both parties) impacted how the world views the United States over the last half century? We have been at war/police action/combat operations/contingency operations against Russia (albeit a cold one), Vietnam, Korea, Iraq x 2, Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Afghanistan, Libya x 2, Cuba...ish (Bay of Pigs), and every other wood-be terrorist on the planet. So what have we gained? Is the reputation of the United States unassailable? Is our integrity and honor respected around the world? Are we the steadfast defenders of freedom? Do other countries look at us as the benchmark for economic, educational, and moral greatness? Do they say to themselves, “Those Americans may not always be right, but they are good, intelligent, industrious, thoughtful, and honorable people.”? I would say that if you asked anyone from one corner of the world to the other, they would say unequivocally and emphatically NO. Our politicians have so damaged our reputation in the world that nobody trusts us or respects us. With our credibility shot, the most that we can hope for is that they fear us, which is where we find ourselves today; with tentative allies and devoted enemies.
