How is it that in 2014 there is still at least 5 pages of the news paper, at the back, just exclusively dedicated to, what is most of the time, only men? The sports section of the Dominion post today can be used as a game of wheres Wendy. - if you find her, the only woman in the entire five pages, shes a physio that is half cropped out of the back of a tiny photo. The sports section of the news should be %50 women and %50 men. The argument that readers arent interested in womens sports as much as mens sports is invalid for one simple reason. Its never been tested. Weve never been given the chance to become interested in womens sports. If you give us a year of %50 women and %50 men split in the sport section of the news paper, and at the end of that year people dont care about womens sports then Ill be proved wrong. However, as it is currently this is one of the most outdated and abandoned areas of gender representation in NZ media that Ive seen so far.
