How many of my friends in cities /urban India have been to villages? How much do the movies (Bollywood) reflect the ground situation correctly - a question to ponder. When was it that Indian movies showed the traditional Village Bania or Thakur in a positive light. Movies is hitting at our social fabric by creating divisions and stereotyping certain sections. Remember the portrayal of money lender from Mother India - true that many poor people are in the clutches of shahukars bur invariably movies who only the negative side - positive side is rarely highlighted.These movies are funded by whom and what is the motive ? Values promoted by the stars are of desirable nature or not for the society - needs to be debated. Large majority cannot survive a marriage in their personal lives - how can they be role models for the youth who has begun questioning the institution of marriage and family - two pillars of the Indian society. All this in the name of modernity. Movies have invariably shown parents as against happiness of teenagers and youth especially when it comes to life partners. By the time they realise the gap between reality and filmy world it is too late. Time to redefine ROLE MODELS - keeping the larger interests of the perennial society and country. Downhill is always easy and climbing up - setting high standards will call for sacrifices and tough resistance from all quarters under the garb of many lofty ideals. We need to make a choice - it is now or never.
