How many of us have misheard a lyric over the years … sung along to a CD for years, only to be embarrassed years later when we realise we’ve been singing the wrong words for decades? A misunderstood lyric is known as a ‘mondegreen’, and in his ‘Ultimate Collection’ liner notes, Graham Simpson makes reference to several of them as detailed in lyric sheets of Seekers albums over the years: Just A Closer Walk With Thee - “I am weak, but thou art strong, Jesus keep me from alarm …” You Can Tell The World - “I don’t know but I’ve been told, yes he did, yes he did, drinks in Heaven enplated with gold …” The Leaving Of Liverpool - “So fare the well my own true love, and when I return, untidy we will be …” The Times They Are A Changin’ - “The line it is drawn, the curse it is cussed, the slow and mammal will later be fast …” The Carnival Is Over – “But the joys of love and greeting, for happy roads and fair and bright …” What are your misheard lyrics?
