How many of you consider getting a good nights sleep and important - TopicsExpress

How many of you consider getting a good nights sleep and important part of reaching your fitness goals? Sometimes, things like lots of stress (positive and negative), combined with too little sleep can cause a slow down in fat loss. You hear about cortisol a lot anymore, and while that is an issue to consider (it has both positive and negative attributes), it isnt the only hormone that is coming into play here. A very import piece of the puzzle is your thyroid. Not only is it important for your thyroid to make enough hormone to support you, it also has to convert properly. I know that doesnt make sense to everyone, so long story short... Thyroid makes T4 (inactive hormone), it then has to be converted to T3 to become active. If the body is too deprived of anything (sleep, nutrients, energy, illness, stress all have an impact) it decides that rather than being active, it would prefer to convert to more Reverse T3. This happens in order to conserve energy. Despite the similarities in the name, Reverse T3 is inactive. This will slow down the way the body burns fat. Now what time are you going to bed? Coach Steph
