How many of you have checked your estrogen levels after your PE - TopicsExpress

How many of you have checked your estrogen levels after your PE (pulmonary embolism) or another clotting event? Many of us have genes called CYP1a1, CYP1a2 and CYP1b1 and when they consume caffeine, caffeine can elevate their estrogen levels by 80%. This cytochrome P450 pathway has to do with poor caffeine metabolism in the liver. And again when you have trouble breaking down caffeine, you will have trouble breaking down the estrogen that comes along with it. There is another gene related to estrogen dominance and trouble breaking down catacholamines dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. These individuals not only have trouble with clotting when estrogen levels elevate, but tend to have anxiety and sometimes even panic disorder. People with the COMT V158M gene Met Met (homozygous) with VDR Taq homozygous (vitamin d receptor gene) that can have a clotting event make up 6% of the population. They are usually deficient in niacin. They tend to use up their niacin always trying to break down dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine (which will cause a spike in estrogen that can lead to clotting). Then there is a pathway called sulfonotransferase. These genes when compromised can give you problems breaking down estrogens like estradiol. SULT1a1 and SULT1a2. All together these genes are implicated in clotting and estrogen dominance. Many people with these genes have a family history of not only clotting and stroke but prostate cancer, testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, PCOS and fibroid tumors. You dont have to be defined by these genes. Men as well as women can get a detailed hormone panel. They can avoid chicken injected with bovine growth hormone(elevates estrogen) and antibiotics as many stores are selling the healthier alternatives. They can avoid things like grain fed beef that are injected with bovine growth hormones (elevates estrogen) and antibiotics. Again grass fed beef without BGH and antibiotics are sold as healthier options in many stores. Your dairy should say BGH free (bovine growth hormone). I myself prefer to stay away from dairy because of its implications in inflammation. Avoiding soy (many things are loaded with soy) because it mimics estrogen. And avoiding black tea, green tea, white tea, coffee and chocolate. Birth control pills can be a death sentence for someone with elevated estrogen levels. Remember before you complain about the expense a good book you can read is Sick For Money. Healthier food choices can save you money in the long run. In this journey (I do still have a long way to go but am no longer on home health nursing or disability) I have learned how to make food my pharmacy. There are natural supplements that can help lower estrogen that I have used in the past. Calcium d glucarate and DIM and avoiding estrogen promoting foods. ~~ Sterling Hill Erdei
