How many of you remember the summer of 2001, otherwise known as the Summer of the Shark? Millions of people enter this countrys beaches every summer and on this summer, 5 people were killed. The reality was that this summer was no more deadly for shark attacks than any other, however, it became the 3rd largest story every reported and we couldnt escape it. It finally took the horrific events of September 11, 2001 to show us what really is the deadliest threat to people, other people. One can draw many parallels to Penn Lives reporting to the summer of 2001. It has all the makings of tabloid journalism at its finest, fear mongering, sensationalism, and turning something that is really an anomaly into the belief that is an epidemic. The truth is that summer of 2001 was so dull for newsmakers and one can only imagine that locally, things are a little less exciting in Harrisburg. After all, we dont have Mayor Thompson to amuse and embarrass us any longer. We dont have the tag lines of poison ivory, fish who flaps their wings at us, and the scumbags of Perry County. What we have now is a very stable, albeit dull by Penn Lives standards, Mayor, Eric Papenfuse. On top of everything else, violent crime is down in the Capital City. So the brains behind Penn Live and one very lowly wanna be journalist, Eric Veronikis, have given us the summer of the deadly pit bull. Well, Eric, my good friend Madison, pictured below, wants you and Penn Live to know that you arent going to risk her life, reputation, and thousands of Central Pennsylvania families because your job is dull. Your job is to report the truth, to be objective, fair, balanced, and to ensure that your sources are impartial and widely accepted in their fields.
