How many senses do we have? Grossly oversimplified, we are - TopicsExpress

How many senses do we have? Grossly oversimplified, we are taught the FIVE basic senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Some would try to categorize the following list into the broader categories of the 5 senses. But you will see from the list that I have presented, some of those senses actually require a synthesis of physical perceptions that defy the simpler list. Ill list a few--kinesthetics (learning style in which learning takes place by the student carrying out a physical activity, rather than listening to a lecture or watching a demonstration, that is, contrary to visual or auditory learning) and proprioception (relative position of neighbouring parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement, for instance, the wiggling of fingers and toes in relation to other body parts) -balance -orientation -gravity -weight -hunger -satiety -touch -temperature -barometric pressure -blood pressure -pain -position (joints) -sight -distance -speed -color -depth -hearing -speed -direction -smell -chemical identity -taste -balance -fatigue (awareness of) -chemical imbalance -spatial reasoning In addition, after a very bad car wreck, I discovered that there is a form of internalized hearing completely separate from sound waves, a persons own internal rhythm, for lack of a better description. And some, after compiling a list, would seek to add intuition, clairvoyance and spiritualism to the senses. As we use an unbelievably small part of our brain function, I could be persuaded to include those senses as pertinent. But how to prove them using singular language apart from a supernatural entity. Can you think of any others?
