How many times does God become for us a source of scandal? I would - TopicsExpress

How many times does God become for us a source of scandal? I would say most of the time. Today I want to reflect on how God often shocks us, the kind of scandal that in the end tests our faith and above all our logic and perception of things. Humans are accustomed to mastering all and thinking we control everything, including daring to control our domination by God, since we mistakenly think we know His deepest intentions. This should not be so, as it is God who knows us and knows what we really need. We absurdly believe we know God’s deep designs, believing that God has the same order and pedagogy that we do. And this is revealed just enough to be aware of the shock when God shows us things in such a simple manner, simple to the point that we do not understand. God doesn’t allow Himself to be simply comprehended, but felt, and experienced. God continues to scandalize us when He gives us the promise of freedom in the person of His Son Jesus. Many thought this would be a large and sumptuous messiah with a political and military power. Instead, God leaves us with the surprise that His Son would not be born in a palace for this honor, but in a cave with a bed of straw and hay. This in the rebel eyes of many human beings is inconceivable and a complete scandal, because God only seeks to understand the reality of human misery. Unless we allow ourselves to deepen, Jesus shocks us when He teaches us the transforming power of love, forgiveness and freedom. To a society which has always live in hatred and revenge, these things seem scandalous as well. Learning to recognize God’s children, but even more important, feel so loved by Him to be obviously included in the humanity of Jesus, leads to the only way of not being shocked by God. Today He raises us up and gives us a new reason to keep going. So if you are still scandalized by God, it’s because you still do not know Him.
