How many times have we said the “Lord’s Prayer”….or the “Our Father”….but have we REALLY thought about it? Did you ever wonder why that is the only prayer Jesus told the people to say? Why, when he condemned patent prayers by the Pharisees and pagans, did he give specific words for His followers to repeat? I DON’T BELIEVE HE DID. I don’t believe He intended us to just say the words. I believe it was not a prayer, but a line of thought for us to pray from our spirits and hearts. Let’s look at it from that perspective. OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN He told Moses: “I AM THAT I AM” Genesis 49:25 Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: 2 Corinthians 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. First, we need to establish, in our own words, our devotion and submission of every aspect of our lives to Almighty God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. This could involve silent worship in the spirit, as well as words. HALLOWED BE THY NAME May Your Name be worshipped in Spirit and Truth, as You said in Your Word. May all of us know the Power of Love enveloped in that Wonderful Name!!!! May our family and descendents follow You and submit to You in their lives. May our nations’ leaders soften their hearts toward You, and toward their people, and rule in love and honesty. THY KINGDOM COME We thank You for salvation, for Your Kingdom coming to earth in the form of The Word, Jesus Christ Our Lord, We look forward to Your Second Coming, and the end of time giving us eternity in Your Arms, as we stay with You in this life through Your Grace and Strength. THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN We submit ourselves, our families, everything we are, everything we have, and everything we hope for, to Your Will. We want only Your plans for us and ours, and we know that we are nothing without You. As Heaven is full of You, we wish that for Our lives….our spirits clinging to Your Spirit, in total fulfillment and submission. We ask for that total oneness You promised in Your final prayer on earth. We know that when we have that desire to be in the palm of Your hand….in Your Loving Arms, then Your desires will be our desires, and Psalm 37:4 will become true in our lives: “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD Lord, we have our eyes on You, we live in the Spirit, not with our eyes on the false riches of this material and temporary world. We trust You completely, and we know that our very lives, and the very next breath we take, depends upon Your will for us. We know You will give us the sustenance we need to live as long as You desire for us in this world. There are “preachers” who want to turn our eyes to this world….saying that poverty is of the devil, and prosperity is of God. We know, Lord that there was nothing said from Your mouth to lead us to believe that. Prosperity, poverty, sickness, health, and other aspects of our lives, all fall under our submission to Your Perfect Will for us. We are delighted to be resting in Your Arms, and we gladly prefer a morsel of bread from Your Hand, to a grand feast given by the world. We thank You for the beauty You have given all around us, and the love of family and friends surrounding us, trusting that every perfect gift is from You: James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” ************************************************** AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES Oh Father, we are so sorry for our failures, sins, and weaknesses. We know that because of Jesus Christ, you forgive us when we come to You in repentance. Sometimes we fail in our well-meaning ways, and sometimes pride or other sins cause us to fall. Sometimes we are deceived. Any way it comes, Lord, we must bear the fault, and we are on our faces in repentance and sorrow for failing You. We thank You for Your Grace and love for us, and the forgiveness that follows. For Your Word says that nothing can separate us from the Love of God through Jesus Christ Our Saviour. Again, false teachings have attempted to alienate us from Our Lord. There are false teachings that teach that we need not repent after “salvation” because God automatically forgives our sins. They say we cannot really sin after we have said the “sinners prayer”….But the Bible teaches us in so many ways that if we do not repent, we must wonder if we are truly saved, because if we have TRULY accepted The Lord, we will be so sorrowful and sickened by our weak and sinful thoughts and actions, we will not be able to stop ourselves from going to Him in sorrow. Our love for Him will draw us to our knees at His feet. (see my other writings for scripture verses to further show this) AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US Notice the first word, “as”…..He will forgive us AS we forgive others. This is further taught in Matthew 6:15 and Mark 11:26 to mention just two. As we keep our eyes on Our Lord and the Eternal, Spiritual world instead of this materialistic and temporary, alien world, we will see that there is nothing in this life worth unforgiveness. If someone has wronged us, we need to go to the Lord and submit our feelings to His scrutiny, asking Him to change us and show us the situation from His perspective, and we will then see how insignificant and menial the problem really is. Usually, He will show us that the reason we’re unforgiving is the sin of pride in us, and when we choose to put that under His feet, He will soften our hearts and show us that we can truly “esteem others as better than (ourselves)” …..Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL We ask You, Father, through the conquering of satan by Your Son Jesus Christ, that we are protected from the influences of him who deceives. Who is here to steal, kill, and destroy. We pray that our families be protected, and that past family curses be abolished through Jesus Christ. We pray for strength to stay by You through the trials and temptations of our Old Selves, our physical weaknesses, other people, or the effects of this fallen world, or the evil one. We pray we can endure with You until the end, and not rest from our fight and resistance to evil until we are safely in Your Loving Arms. So, you see, when Jesus gave these words. He didn’t mean to just repeat some words in our minds. They were to be starting points……phrases, teachings, for us to ponder, and let the Holy Spirit show us the meaning….both in general and detailed for each of us in our individual lives. Our Lord never does anything enmasse. Everything He did was focused on each of us individually. That is also true of the Lord’s Prayer. It is our doorway to a meaningful discussion with Our Wonderful Father in Heaven!!!!!!!!!
