How many times have we taken something beautiful and turned it into a idol? How many times have we, little by little, started replacing God with something else in our hearts? I know we do not carve out images and bow before them, but we do bow our hearts and live for people/things in our lives. For where your heart is, there will also be your treasure has a deep meaning when it comes to our relationship with God. It means that whatever your heart is striving to achieve, that is what your God is. Your children, job, fame, recognition, love, money, a ball game...whatever you spend most of your time trying to seek, find, or win is what you worship. The Israelites did the same thing...they took good things in their lives and made then into what their hearts sought after the most. It not only separated them from God, but also destroyed their relationship with Him. We would be wise to root out anything that we seek more than God and get rid of it or change its place in our hearts. They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them. Ezekiel 7:20
