How much effect does the West have on us? We Indians, do we even - TopicsExpress

How much effect does the West have on us? We Indians, do we even have an identity of our own anymore, we have our own issues to deal with, but we brazenly follow the West. Halloween, Thanksgiving, labour day and blah blah. Above all that being hypocrites, and I with all the guilt put myself too in that category. First came the ice bucket challenge, most people did not know the cause it was started for, majority Indians just did it to look cool, happily uploaded videos on YouTube, but in the meanwhile completely overlooked the fact that they were supposed to donate too. Then came the book bucket challenge. How many of us actually went out and donated the books. Now the Movemeber, the no shave month for the guys. Maybe the guys have found just another reason to not shave :p. Lets be realistic here, maybe 10 out of a 100 guys will actually know thats its not a trend but a cause and just maybe 1 out of those 10 guys may just donate the money at the end of the month. I havent seen more than 5 people on my list of more than 400 people to be actually proudly following and propagating the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan which targets one of the biggest issues we Indians face in our country. Maybe we all are just too used to being surrounded by all the filth. Maybe, the pictures dont turn out cool enough with a broom in the hand to be posted on Facebook as compared to pouring a bucket of icecold water on your head and just maybe looking like a grizzly bear would somehow make India a better place. If, this was too much to ask for and if the ice hadnt totally brain freezed us, the least we could have done was supporting the Aamir Khan Mumkin hai campaign, but wait, it isnt an African, American, Scandinavian or a European cause. It was an Indian cause, and it just wasnt Facebook Cool.. P. S: This isnt a dig at anyone. I, too am a part of the Bandwagon.
