How much lower can this government go... Today, 14th of March 2014, people incarcerated on Christmas Island were presented with a form by the Immigration Department and asked to sign it. The form was a waiver saying that they (asylum seekers) would not hold the Department of Immigration responsible nor would they take action in relation to the breach of privacy. Some people have reported that they have been asked to sign 1 without having read the waiver. 2 without a translator present. There have also been reports that asylum seekers who have refused to sign have experienced the anger of staff, and at least one threat that they will be transferred to Nauru (recorded) if they do not sign.
