How much would it really cost to stop global warming? Maybe not - TopicsExpress

How much would it really cost to stop global warming? Maybe not so much. A new report from the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate, recently cited by economist Paul Krugman in the NY Times, argues that the overall economic net costs of global warming prevention could be very low: • because reductions in air pollution will lower health costs, and improve productivity; and • if revenues from carbon taxes are used to lower income taxes to more than offset the dead-weight loss of the carbon tax. The Commission includes the Chair of Economics and Govt. at the London School of Economics, the former presidents or prime ministers of Mexico, New Zealand, Chile, Mozambique, and Norway, several former Ministers of Finance from various countries, the Chair of Bank of America, the COO of the World Bank, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, and others.
