How my day started out of bed: Unlike most days, for I don’t - TopicsExpress

How my day started out of bed: Unlike most days, for I don’t make a habit of it, it began with me climbing over the neighbours fence in my pyjamas. Undoubtedly a hilarious sight should anyone have been wandering past at the time. You may by now be wondering what had caused me to undertake such an adventure. It was to go after a 3 legged kitten. During his second outing into the world out our house he had decided there was something fascinating on the other side of the fence which required investigation, so he promptly went over. Now, for a 3 legged kitten he is surprisingly fast, and let’s be honest I’m not the best sprinter so he managed to get through the fence with great ease before I even reached it. What he didn’t realise I fear was that he had ventured into the yard of a rather big German Shepard who wasn’t at all fond of felines. A lesson my own cat learned shortly after moving here. With the fear of his imminent discovery and mauling by the dog I scuttered around their yard in search of him. Meanwhile my own cat, who holds the kitten in great dislike, sat smugly on the safe side of the fence, watching the whole affair. I have my suspicions it was in fact she who had first goaded the kitten in venturing over to such an inhospitable place. The kitten however had decided the neighbour’s yard wasn’t that fascinating after all and proceeded to crawl under their front gate and sit on the road; a situation just as dangerous and deadly as that of which the dog had been. Pancake ala’ kitten. With great athletic skill I never knew I possessed, I vaulted over two fences and rushed onto the street, scooping up the kitten into my arms. I now stood in the middle of the street, holding a much ruffled and resistant kitten, in my pyjamas quite worn out and tired. It was about this time a student; most likely from the nearby college swaggered by, chunky headphones on his ears playing quite loudly. They stopped when they saw me however and stared for quite some time as I scuttled off the road and up my driveway to the front steps. It wasn’t until both kitten and I were securely shut inside, looking out the window that they moved on, their body heaving in what could only be uncontained laughter. And all this before I’d even had breakfast…
