How not to lose a resident in training: 1. Succumb to their needs even if it means exploiting your junior consultants. 2. Avoid sanctions even if what theyre doing is clearly wrong and unlawful. Because things will change eventually. 3. In reference to 2, bend your policies. 4. Compromise training, spoon feed them and do not change their mindset. 5. Do not allow them to go on solo duty. Critical thinking, clinical eye, decision making is not part of the training. 6. Seniors are allowed to do whatever they want. The more residents following their behavior the merrier. 7. Admissions should be limited to seniors and consultants. It is a very difficult task, they might miss important things along the way. What a good way to produce competent and productive trainees. Have a happy training.
