How often have we heard the expression, “he/she is so - TopicsExpress

How often have we heard the expression, “he/she is so worldly.” It certainly conjures up images of someone who is inordinately focused on material things and exhibiting a dependence on them that is ultimately unhealthy. Jesus often addressed this issue and, in particular, about hoarding more and more as a way of feeling secure. He calls such people “fools”. They have built their “houses” or security on shifting sands. All of us need to take this subject to prayer and rather regularly too. A simple reflection question might be “Is there any chance that I am controlled by my external image?” There is a strong Scriptural reference to this topic in John 15: 18-19. “If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.” Do we feel “hated” or rejected for our way of life? Do we feel that we are happy and grateful and that this gift comes from an inner source? Think of someone whom you know who exhibits a balance in life, someone who is well grounded. Pray for that person; and even better connect with the person and express your admiration. Have you a list or are you finding it difficult to come up with names? –Msgr. John Barry
