How screwed up is this In Canada, we call our country canada. every other country calls our country canada, or some kind of pronunciation close to it. In america, they call their country america, and expect every other country to call them America. In Japan, they call their country Nihon, their people Nihonjin, while the rest of the world calls it Japan. How did the rest of the world come to that name? When Matthew Perry opened Japan to trade, did the american in him come out and overrule the very naming of their country? Japan doesnt even sound like Nihon!
