How shall they hear without a preacher? For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Romans 10:13 It is very important to read the verses that follow this verse. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? - Romans 10:14 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! - Romans 10:15 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? - Romans 10:16 What is the gospel? Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; - 1 Corinthians 15:1 The gospel is preached. We receive the gospel. We stand in the gospel. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:2 We are saved by the gospel, IF we obey the gospel. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; - 1 Corinthians 15:3 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: - 1 Corinthians 15:4 The gospel is Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. How do we obey the gospel, Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection? We obey Jesus’ death by repentance. Repentance is turning our life to Jesus and away from sin. We become dead to sin by killing off the sins in our life. We obey Jesus’ burial by baptism in Jesus name. We are fully immersed in water IN THE NAME OF JESUS for the remission of all of our sins. The blood of Jesus washes our sins away. They are buried in baptism. We obey Jesus’ resurrection by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. God fills us with His Spirit giving us power to overcome sin and live a new, holy life. (Acts 1:8) God shows we have fully received His Sprit when we speak in tongues, allowing God to change our words of praise and thanksgiving into a language we have not learned. (Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 19:5-6) When we obey the gospel, we are born again of water and of Spirit. (John 3:5) We begin a new life in Christ. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? - Romans 6:1 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? - Romans 6:2 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? - Romans 6:3 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. - Romans 6:4 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: - Romans 6:5 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:11 Peter preached the gospel on the Day of Pentecost. He preached Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. He was then asked the question, “What shall we DO?” Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? - Acts 2:37 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. - Acts 2:38 To be saved, we need a preacher sent by God that is preaching not only the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, but ALSO that we need to repent of our sins, be baptized “IN JESUS NAME” for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost with the sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives them utterance.
