How should Sativex be administered? How many sprays should be administered per day? According to the package insert of GW Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Sativex, “the spray container should be shaken before use and the spray should be directed at different sites on the oromucosal surface - changing the application site each time the product is used.” The dosing should be individualized for each patient. The number, as well as the timing of sprays will differ among patients. The dose needs to be titrated. The manufacturer of Sativex suggests that the number of sprays be increased on a daily basis by one spray per day, up to a maximum of 12 sprays per day, until the patient achieves optimum symptom relief. There should be at least a 15-minute gap between sprays. Of note, in clinical trials the median dose was eight sprays.
