How to Have a Great Life Why do you think God put you here? You are not an accident; He created you completely different than everyone else. Did you know God has even written about you in a book? The Bible says, You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed (Psalm 139:16). What do you think God has for you in that book? While there is no way to know the future, God has given you a blueprint to build your life. You can be creative with it, but there are certain things you know it will have: at least four walls, a roof, a foundation, windows -- the general blueprint. Jesus is the blueprint for your life. You look to Him to see how to build your life. So what did Jesus life look like? Would you believe that He came to earth with the specific plan of dying? He said, For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). Its like planting a seed in the ground. You could eat that seed and be filled for a minute, or you could sacrifice it to the ground so that a great plant could grow. Jesus knew that the best use of His life was to sacrifice it so many others could be saved from their sins. His whole life was about obeying God and putting others first. There is your blueprint. Maybe you want to paint your house blue and be a musician; maybe you want to build great windows and be an athlete; but no matter what you do, you can do it to honor God and love others. If you follow that blueprint, your life will be worthwhile. Making a Difference Picture yourself in a really desperate situation -- up against a wall with no one to help you. Then, someone comes along, a stranger, and completely rescues you. How relieved would you feel? Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan: a man who was supposed to be enemies with a Jew who got mugged. The Samaritan went way out of his way to rescue the Jew, when none of his own peers would help. In fact, he even paid out of his own pocket to take care of him. Comparing the Samaritan with two other religious men who just passed by, Jesus asked, Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, The one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him, Go and do likewise (Luke 10:36,37). What is the greatest use of your life? Jesus said, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). Mary came home from a long workday, only to find her son overwhelmed and depressed. She could have just passed him by and gone to bed, but she took her last time and energy to comfort him. Mary loved her son as herself. Neighbors with problems are everywhere, starting right in your own home. Everyday you can decide how you are going to respond to the problems you see. Are you going to pass by, or will you give your time and resources to help? It can be by saying a nice comment to someone, giving money to a poor person, or devoting your best talent to benefit others. Ask God to show you how to best use your life, and He will tell you. And if you follow Him, you will live a truly meaningful life.
