How to Improve your Language? ================================= ## To improve your language, you have to follow these steps: =============================================== # LISTENING SKILL >>>> ----------------------------------------- 1. Listen English songs a lot and try to choose the singers who have clear words in singing such as, Celine Dion, Whitney Huston and so on. 2. Try to write the lyrics of the songs that you listen to, then revise the correct lyrics of the songs on the internet. 3. Listen to English movies, talk shows or English news WITHOUT any attempt to understand every single word, just to let your subconscious mind interact with the language and get used to it. # SPEAKING SKILL >>>> -------------------------------------------- 4. After some time [ long or short, it depends on your practice], youll find yourself able to understand what you listen to; the pronunciation of the words, the sounds, the linking sounds among the chain of the words and the way of saying and pronouncing some special phrases and sentences. At that time, you must start to repeat what you listen to, imitate it or even make it as if youre acting that youre native or English speaker. 5. When you are with your friends, practice the language that youre trying to learn. Ask them as a suggestion to speak into English during your walk, eating, joking, shopping, and during the day that you spend together. Also, you can make it during the break of the work or which is between the lectures. Actually, youll find some difficulties in saying some Arabic words and sentences, but you have your small notebooks and some have their smart phones that are connected to the internet service which means that you can survey the internet and use the online Arabic- English dictionaries. And if you dont have smart phones or internet service connection, you can use your note book by writing the words or the sentences that you dont know it into English, going back home and looking up your manual or online dictionary or the one that you have on your computer or laptop, finding what you were searching for, writing it down in your notebook and telling your friends about the results of your search to practice it together. [ Thats what I already did with my friends when I was a student in the Secondary School and University]. # READING SKILL >>>> ---------------------------------------- 6. Read English articles as much as you can. When you open your Yahoo mail, youll find whats new. Open it because it has English headlines of English articles that are talking about the international current events. Read as much as you can and during reading use an online dictionary to translate any difficult words. You can read some English articles from the websites of the English Newspapers and Magazines. ** NOTE >> a) You have to take into your consideration the idea of guessing at first. I mean that you must use your guessing ability before finding the meaning of the word. b) You have to focus on the structure and the methods of writing sentences, phrases, using punctuation, the style of showing and clarifying the ideas in writing, the style of arranging the ideas and so on. # WRITING SKILL >>>> ----------------------------------------- 7. After a long time of reading, you can try to write anything such as, your thoughts and ideas, a movie you watched before and you want to write your opinion about it or what did you do in the holiday and how did you spend it?. Also, you can have your notebook during the time that you spend outdoors in order to write down your thoughts about the weather, the people, the streets, the transportation, the feelings that you have at that time and any other thing came to your mind. [ I already did that when I was a student and it worked well with me]. 8. At the same time, you have to survey the internet to find some articles and pdf files that are talking about the methods of writing into English. ** NOTE >> # The aim of reading English articles a lot before starting writing into English is that, the subconscious mind keeps what you read and when you start to practice writing, itll be sent to your conscious mind as if your mind is memorizing, remembering and provoking what you have already read before as structures and methods of writing, and what you have already read and known about the methods of writing into English.
