How to Kill Bed Bugs With Home Remedies Bed bugs are parasites that can cause irritation to the skin. The insects feed off warm-blooded animals. They live in cool and dark locations such as bed frames and the folds of the mattress. Removing the bed bugs completely can be a complicated process. Instead of calling an exterminator, you can try to remove them yourself with home remedies. If you are not successful in removing the bed bugs, you will need to contact an exterminator Instructions 1 Connect the upholstery attachment to your vacuum cleaner. Run the vacuum over all surfaces in the infested room. Vacuuming will not remove all the bed bugs, but it will help remove most of them and the eggs. Vacuum all the areas in the room such as the floorboards, corners of the wall and bed frame. 2 Launder the clothes and bed sheets according to the care label. Launder them with hot water if possible. Place the items in the dryer because the heat will kill the insects. Place items such as stuffed animals or rugs that cannot be washed directly into the dryer to allow the heat to kill the bed bugs. 3 Place items that you cannot launder in a plastic bag. Place it in the freezer for a week to expose the bed bugs to an extreme temperature that will kill them. 4 Sprinkle diatomaceous earth along cracks in the room and under the bed. The food-grade powder will cut the bedbugs as they crawl on the floor and cause them to die. 5 Place a mattress cover on to seal the bedbugs inside the mattress. This will trap the bedbugs, but it can take up to 18 months for them to die.
