How to Make Your Own Natural Deodorant You probably know this feeling when you are standing near a person who has a strong smell of sweat. These incidents become more frequent during summer time. Human perspiration is largely odorless until it is fermented by bacteria that thrive in hot, humid environments. Here I would like to share with you a fantastic recipe to make natural homemade deodorant. There are many commercial deodorants that come in many forms such as spray, roll-on, gel or stick. Many of them contain aluminum which is frequently used in antiperspirants. A small percentage of people are allergic to aluminum and may experience skin irritation when exposed to deodorants containing aluminum. But there are more dangerous chemicals found in commercial antiperspirants and deodorants other than aluminum. Parabens are synthetic preservatives that are often found in deodorants as well. The main concern is that these chemicals can disrupt our hormonal balance as they mimic the activity of estrogen in the body’s cells. If you don’t want to expose yourself to these harmful materials, you might want to try this natural homemade deodorant recipe which comes in a liquid form. This great and easy recipe contains witch hazel extract, aloe vera gel and essential oils that are safe to use on your skin. Thus you know exactly what goes on your body. I’ve already written in the past about the best uses of aloe vera for great and healthy skin. Another natural substance commonly used in skin care products is witch hazel. This is an extract from the leaves and bark of the North American shrub Hamamelis virginiana. It soothes irritated skin, helps to lock moisture into skin and helps to maintain skin softness and elasticity. It also has anti microbial and anti inflammatory properties. Another ingredient in this homemade deodorant is vegetable glycerin. This is a clear, odorless liquid produced from plant oil. It is used in the cosmetics industry and in many moisturizing skin products due to its excellent moisturizing properties. It helps make the skin smooth and soft and also acts as a non-chemical preservative. It is also a component of glycerin soap, which is often used by people with sensitive skin. Lavender and tea tree essential oils have anti bacterial properties. These essential oils are versatile and you can read more about them in my previous articles about the top 10 uses for lavender essential oil and top 5 medicinal uses for tea tree oil. Natural Homemade Deodorant Recipe 4 tbsp each of witch hazel extract, aloe vera gel and mineral water 1 tsp vegetable glycerin A few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oils Preparation Put all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well to blend.
