How to Write a Book Review: 1. A review should offer a critical assessment of the content. 2. This involves your reactions to the work under review like what strikes you as noteworthy, whether or not it was effective or persuasive and how it enhanced your understanding of the issues at hand. 3. A review is not a summary. it demands analysis while a summary is a report of what is written. 4. A good review will involve description, evaluation and wherever possible explanation of why the author wrote the book and how the authors bias affected the selection and use of sources. 5. Never make a book review too long, for this makes it difficult for the readers to form an opinion about the book. A review may be as short as 100-150 words or as long as 1500 words.. 6. You can agree or disagree with the views of the author and can identify the weak points of the book. 7. Note down the good and bad points or qualities of the book in hand during reading, which will enable you to make an opinion whether a book is good or bad by the number of good and bad points. 8. your review should do three things; describe what is on the pages, analyse whether the book achieved its purpose and your own reactions about the book. 9. Choose a book, read a book and write an informal book report like title, name of author, pages, main characters, main points and likes and dislikes. 10. Begin writing a review by first writing a brief introduction of the book, name of the author, title, edition, place of publication, publisher, date and paging etc. 11. Where appropriate identify the authors qualification and any other information that is relevant to the discussion of the book. If you have read other works of the author try to place them as reference. 12.
