How to grow Vegetables in Straw bales Instructions Place a plastic ground cloth in the location where your bales will sit to protect the ground from excess runoff. This will help keep the ground from becoming boggy. Bales should be placed in full sun so that the vegetables receive proper sunlight. Position your bales carefully. Once vegetables grow within the bales, they cannot be moved. The binding twine of the bales should be parallel to the soil with the straw grain perpendicular to the soil. Leave the binding intact so that the bale holds together. Soak the bale thoroughly with water. Most 50-pound bales will hold 15 gallons of water. Add lime to the bales. Use ¾ to 1 lb. of lime per bale. Fork the lime into the bale with a garden fork. Mix a water soluble fertilizer (20-10-20) at a rate of 8 tbs. per gallon to water. Water the bale with this solution every day for 10 days; this starts the process of composting the bale. Check the internal temperature of the bales. The bales should heat up to at least 100 degrees internal temperature and remain this temperature for 2 weeks. Once the temperature inside the bales declines, it is safe to plant vegetables in the bales Mix equal parts sand and peat moss to create a soil mixture. Spread this mixture over the top of the bales. This soil will help hold in moisture. Part the layers of soil and poke a hole into the bale’s straw. Place the root ball of vegetable transplants into the hole and shove the layers of straw and soil over them. Plant two tomatoes per bale or four cucumbers, lettuce or peppers per bale Water the bales after planting -ღϠ₡ღ✻✻ღϠ₡ღ✻✻ღϠ₡ღ✻✻ღϠ₡ღ✻✻ღϠ₡ღ✻✻ღϠ₡ღ Trim Down Fiber Plus+, an all new weight loss supplement made from the best all natural ingredients to help you lose the weight safely and naturally is now available to order!
