How to help someone cope from a death of someone you love. (This blog was adapted from the book “The Quick Reference Guide to Biblical Counseling, Pgs 60-65). The apostle Paul wrote in the book of Philippians, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (1:21). 1. “Death was not God’s original desire for humanity” (Clinton see above source). 2. We need to remember that grieving a death of anyone is different as each person is. 3. But in time we need to rediscover the meaning of life. The next few are some action steps you can take; 1. Focus on the basic needs of the one grieving; such as food, shelter, safety, hygiene, medication, and meals. 2. Discover the best ways for that person to cope with the loss. Talk about them, remember them, and don’t forget the good times that you had together. 3. Seek social interaction with friends and family, get involved in a church group, or get involved in the community. 4. Help the children if there are children that are grieving. 5. Allow time to grieve. It is going to take time and it cannot be rushed. Pray for the loved ones those who are grieving. Matthew Henry said, “He who’s head is in heaven need to fear to put his feet in the grave.” What does the Bible say about this topic? 2 Samuel 12:23, “But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” David said this after the death of his son and it is comforting to the parents when a young child has died because of Christ we will be united again. “Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones” (Psalm 116:15). For believers death is merely a gateway to their eternal home. “And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds will follow with them” (Revelation 14:13). One of my favorite Scriptures Revelation 21:4, “And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” God’s hand wiped our tears, and carries our pain. Listen to this song; There will be a day by Jeremy Camp. See also 1 Corinthians 15:20-22, 26, 2 Corinthians 5:6-8, Philippians 1:23, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, Matthew 11:28-30. My family knows how much it hurts to lose a loved one there is not a day that goes by where one of my family does not think about my sister in law Aimi. Rest in God, He will carry you through this tough time. #death #grieving #counseling #Bible Where will you spend eternity?
