How to improve blood fat (serum lipid analysis) results. 1. Lower the amount of dietary fats. The biggest source may be dairy, not meat! Dairy is much harder to give up, too. Low fat dairy is even more dangerous as it is linked to cancer strongly. In my own case my triglycerides were over 400 and the doc was livid. But I ate little cheese and no milk. So, I gave up eating about a pound of red meat a day and they dropped to 137, but he still wasnt happy, even though I ate chicken and some fish instead. But, as he predicted that regimen did not last, as I was addicted to steak and burgers! I even invented a machine to cook an inch thick cut of any red meat in 3 minutes (5 if frozen). I went right back to red meat, almost as hard as before. So my doctor put me on.. 2. Statins. Prescription meds that improve blood fat numbers. They may have significant side effects, too. Its a judgment call, made necessary by lack of dietary savvy. I did not know which low fat foods were actually healthy and could be eaten to overcome the desire for meat. I do now. 3. Add dietary fiber of the soluble kind. Not bran or plant stalks or leaves, though. It has to be like oatmeal, apples, beans. These foods contain hard fibers but also soluble fibers that actually leave the gut and enter the blood where they remove cholesterol! Its for real what they say about oatmeal, and applesauce. I always have some apple sauce in the fridge and have grown to love it once in awhile with a dusting of cinnamon. 4. Krill oil supplements. Krill are tiny shrimp-like crustaceans usually caught off Antarctica. Taking 2,000 mg/day for 90 days, then 500mg/day thereafter can lower total cholesterol almost 20 percent, raise HDL (good) cholesterol 40 percent, lower bad cholesterol 35 percent, and lower triglyerides 25%. If the BMI is greater than 30 (google BMI calculator where you enter your height and weight) then use 3000 mg/day for 90 days instead. It can be bought very cheaply at Vitacost where I just took a chance and ordered 300 1,000mg capsules for 20 bucks (!) And they have more expensive versions of it, but I think for the 90 days intensive usage the cheap stuff is going to be fine. Several reviewers said it got their numbers in line after their doctor actually prescribed Krill Oil supplementation! This is a MIRACLE product, but you have to follow the procedure used in the clinical trial. You may want to try the same generic brand Neptune Krill Oil which is the source of the better rated stuff. But all of it is going to work more or less the same. One difference is the smell of the higher end stuff is said to be less strong. It is fish afterall. But the smell of death is still worse, so take you damned krill oil. Once the 90 days is over using 2-3 grams of the krill, then you can get a test and if all looks good, try to bump down to only .5 grams (500 mg) /day for another 90 days. At that point, take another test and see if its working, or needs increasing the dosage. In all cases consult your doctor as this is likely the biggest, baddest threat to health you will face, so all the help and direction you can get from doctors should be part of your survival strategy. Below is a link to the krill oil test.
