The Hadejia wetlands have long been known as a centre of agricultural production, The economic value of agricultural production from the flood plains of hadejia rive basin adds weight to the argument in favour of maintaining the annual and permanent flooding of the wetlands, it was estimated that over one million hectres of farmlands are destroyed every year by the effect flood, more than one billion tons of agricultural produce are also wasted every year, flood caused great damage to human lives and settlements in the great hadejia river basin, more 50% of our population in jigawa state concentrated around Hadejia river basin but people are helpless and worried all the times. I appeal to the state governor, honourable Reps and senator representing jigawa east to come to our rescue, the economic benefits provided by the Hadejia wetlands are needed, and the sustainability of production within flood plain areas should be more thoroughly examined and this will surely attract the so called investors to the state. In many countries, rivers prone to floods are often carefully managed. Defenses such as walls, bunds, reservoirs, and weirs are used to prevent rivers from bursting their banks.
