How to stop putting yourself down Do you tend to zone in on all the negative things about yourself? Without even realizing it, you’re putting yourself down before the day’s even begun! If you’re piling those imaginary bricks on your shoulders, telling yourself that you’re not good enough and wish that you were more like so-and-so, you need to read this! Sure, none of us is perfect - but that doesn’t mean that you should constantly knock yourself down. Instead, start thinking of yourself as another person. Would you be saying the things that you’re thinking about yourself to a friend? So how do you try and change this negative way of thinking and stop putting yourself down? Focus on others for self-motivation If you judge yourself, there’s a fair chance that you judge others as well. Instead of doing this, ask yourself questions like, “What makes them the way they are?” or “How did they get to this place?” Stop judging others and use these questions to motivate yourself into being more healthy and positive. Make a list It sounds silly, but it usually works. Write out a list of 10 things you like about yourself. It could be anything, but try and mix it up by listing things you like about your personality, your body, your work ethic, your ability to save, what a great friend you are, what a good mother you are, etc. Stick that list on the inside of your cupboard, if you don’t want anyone else to read it. That way you’ll see it every morning when you get ready for the day ahead. Use the rubber band flick Put a rubber band over your wrist and flick yourself every time you start thinking anything negative about yourself or want to put yourself down. It’s a great way to help break the habit! Instead of putting yourself down and focusing on all the negative things about yourself, try and change them to positive thoughts instead. Zone in on the things you like about yourself and the things that you’re good at instead.
