How to use: The needles and shoots are rich in Vitamin A and C. The needles and young twigs of the pine are used to make a syrup and is used for coughs and as an antiscorbutic, add two spoons in a cup of boiling water and simmer for twenty minutes. Chop needles into smaller pieces, bruise or smash them to let some of the essential oils out when the hot water hits it. A tea made from Pine needle is used to heal bladder, urinary tract, and kidney problems. The cones and needles are used in a bath for breathing disorders, skin complaints, and rheumatic pain. The essential oil is used in aromatherapy for its antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, deodorant, and diuretic properties. To make an oil add the needles or young twigs in a pot, cover the needles with a good quality olive oil and simmer at low heat for twenty minutes, or in a low (180°) oven overnight, use externally to relieve rheumatic pain, chronic bronchitis, sciatica, pneumonia, and nephritis. The sap or resin is used as a poultice to draw out boils, draw embedded splinters, felons, abscesses, also used for rheumatism, broken bones, cuts, bruises, and inflammation, also used to heal the kidneys, liver and lungs. The scent is calming to the lungs and nerves. The inner bark is used to treat wounds and insect bites, applied as a bandage tied in place with string and kept moist or placed directly on the wound after being ground up and soaked in liquor. The bark can also be made into cough syrup, steep in a jar with hot water, brandy and honey are added for flavor and to preserve it.
