How very tragic to hear of the death of a four year old girl at the hands of their family pet ..bought from a local rescue centre ...having just rescued a dog I feel a lot of the blame should lie at the doors of the rescue centres,who unfortunately now seem to be more interested in making money than doing thorough intensive checks ...they also lie ..we were told our dog was 2 when in actual fact she was 8 months ...the only check we had,was to see if our garden was enclosed ! Dogs are not humans we try to humanise them but they are inherently pack animals and wild ...the huge dogue de Bordeaux that killed Lexi should never have been allowed to go to a home with a four year old .New legislation next year will impose jail sentences on owners of dogs that maim or kill,this is not the answer,this poor childs mother in theory could be accountable .What is need is for owners to be responsible for their dogs ,get them trained properly ,muzzle if they show any signs of aggression and never leave a child alone unsupervised,as proven even a pet has the potential to turn into a killer ...
