How would I get rid of ill feelings I have towards my brother? You must first use your thoughts to aid you until your heart is content. For example if someone was to insult me and call me a donkey and I start to develop ill feelings, such as: How dare he? Has he seen himself? What a blah blah! Who does he think he is? Now I would answer these thoughts one at a time. How dare he? -What do you mean how dare he? He is better than you he can say what he likes. How dare YOU (talking to myself) have bad thoughts about him? Do you think you are better than him? Can you justify this? Will you list the good you do? What good do you do? It is Allāh ﷻ who gives you this and he can take it away. Dont be like shaytaan and think you are better because of the good Allāh ﷻ gives you tawfiq to do. Has he seen himself? - what do you mean? Have you seen yourself? He is beautiful *list good things* can you do this? No you cant. What a blah blah! - exactly, yes you are ! You just backbit your brother instead of pardoning him ! Although he doesnt require your pardoning because he hasnt said anything wrong! May allah raise him for helping me and forgive me for insulting him. How disgusting of me. Who does he think he is? - who do you think you are? You do such and such sins daily- you just back bit him also in your heart. While he said what he had to, to your face. And he has no impure feelings in his heart while you do. He was sincere in being open to you and maybe your heart would not have been touched if he had told you in a gentler way! So be careful ! You are nothing. You are filth. Ask allah to purify your heart. You are disgusting. But Allāh ﷻ is all merciful. I would repeat all this to myself, continuously till my heart believes it! Then repent to Allāh ﷻ for having ill feelings towards my brother/sister.
