How would you like to add some variety to your exercise - TopicsExpress

How would you like to add some variety to your exercise class? Sometimes as instructors and students, we fall into a monotonous routine when we teach or participate in exercises. I personally have noticed a higher attendance number and repeat attendees since I have implemented different exercise games into my exercise class. One game we play in exercise class is Action Charades. Yes, it is just like charades just designed specifically for your class. I give each participant a note card with an action and tell them to act out the action silently while their classmates guess their action. See below for action cards you can use in your class: Playing the piano Waking up and stretching Bouncing and shooting a basketball Climbing a ladder Throwing a lasso to practice roping Swimming Riding a bike Trying to catch a taxi Laughing at a joke (my class loves this one because they usually all start to smile or laugh) You can also design them for seasons. For example: Shoveling snow Building a snowman Raking leaves Placing ornaments on the tree Lastly, ensure you give appropriate clues to appropriate participants. For example if a participant is wheelchair bound, you would give them an action he/she can perform while sitting. Please feel free to share ideas for action charades or any other exercise games you play in your classes! Lori Forck, Wellness Coordinator, Arthritis Foundation Instructor
