Howdy Friends. As youve probably guessed by now, my upcoming Solo album - LA Groovin - is very much inspired by the Californian West Coast, and Los Angeles in particular...........and the many great Artists that contributed to what is today the trademark LA Sound..........Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Larry Carlton........etc etc...........all of whom had a massive influence on both my playing and career over the years. One particularly notable influence was my good friend Jeff Skunk Baxter from both Doobies and Steely Dan fame, who I lived with in Bel Air (LA) during a short stint in the US back in the 90s. Jeff also performed with my band Perfect World on one of his many trips to Australia, and we both worked for Roland Corporation as product demonstrators for many years. More importantly, Jeffs the guy who taught me how to play Skank..........that trademark single note noodling around the chord changes that he is so well know for........as well as teaching me how to just let fly in a solo, and throw out my rule book.........I used to be so anal about everything being note perfect. Thanks Buddy :) So heres another new track from the album entitled Skunks Skank.........and I think both the tribute and the influence are obvious. To paraphrase Jeff - It doesnt have to be Perfect, but it MUST be Passionate. I hope you enjoy the track, and stay tuned for more updates on the albums progress :) Dave D
