Howdy Friends! ~ Coffee Clutch this morning was scarcely one cup long. Heat rolling in on the saddle of morning haze delivered a warning that wed better ride before breakfast. Changing up the routine to interrupt Kessys sleepy hay munching went over about as well as telling our grandchildren were getting up an hour early. We breezed through our pre-ride exercises and saddled up before sweltering sun beams pushed the mercury any higher. Once around the trail now known as cardio rehab, then veering onto the escarpment trail that leads to logging roads through the pine. Once on the hard packed red clay road bed, Kessy shifted into her satin smooth flat walk and we glided along as if on butterfly wing. This feeling in my soul had been gone too long. I dropped the reins, let Kessy set the course, after all, I had wild flowers and goldfinches to greet as we glide by. Having missed all the spring and summer flowers, the fall beauties were calling me. Black Eyed Susans, Iron weed, fall wild asters, even a weary blossomed Joe Pye Weed loaded with yellow swallow tails. Sadly, too soon we turned back, Kessy at her limit of restart work, but what a delightful 20 minutes we had on the trail! ~ Gitty Up, Dutch
