Howdy Friends ~ Warm gentle breezes rattled leaves as Kessy - TopicsExpress

Howdy Friends ~ Warm gentle breezes rattled leaves as Kessy silently picked her way along the overgrown trail. Saturday trotted behind. We hadnt been this way in months as it lies deep in the forest, to far for either of us since the restart began. But today we could not stay away – wrens, cardinals and titmice at the barn told us the ravine would be alive with birds, so after only half a cup of Folgers, we did our exercises and set out. The ravine is a few miles from the barn, a glorious patch of undisturbed natural beauty tucked in thousands of acres of cultivated pines. There are several oases of splendor hidden in the sprawling pine forest, and weve not yet revisited any since the restart, and today, well we simply had too. A fast sprinting turkey greeted us at the ravines outer edge. Cedar waxwings and robins attacking the tired fruit on elderberry bushes barely noticed us as we tiptoed by, almost near enough to touch. Warblers of several kinds flitted from stick to stick in the brush as they gathered to head for warmer parts. A flock of perhaps a dozen cardinals erupted as one, giving Kessy just the excuse she looked for to spin. Two pileated woodpeckers took turns drumming on a dead tree. A few butterflies labored over a spent Joe pye weed. Too soon we turned for home, but what a splendid morning we had. ~ Have fun today & Gitty Up, Dutch
