Howdy, all. Today marks the third week since the onslaught of my diverticulitis abscess and two weeks since I was admitted to the hospital, (I’ve been out for a week). I thought a brief en masse update may be in order so y’all don’t think I finally ran off with the Swedish Bikini Team or something. I lost 17 pounds, down to a svelte 169 (I stand 61+). Monday was a little rough, and I found myself at ER for a brief stay of tests. The good news is that, although my white blood cell count is still just over 16 (info for Jill), it’s not increasing, and my abscess has been shrinking. Yay! Best of all, they gave me some groovy pain pills and reassured me that it was normal that I’m to feel like crap for awhile as my body mends. Welcome news indeed, for I’ve had several bad nightmares that I was back in my VA hospital room. Oh, and one where I went to a buffet there and they had run out of bacon by the time I got to it. For my fellow ‘74 Vikings, I’m sorry to say that I’ll not be attending the reunion for sure, for sure. I’m still sleeping about 12 hours a day and the nights are interminable, but I don’t feel terrible most of the time any more; I’m having a nice little window now, in fact, and am hoping again that it may be a sign that I may be headed back to normalcy. We’ll see if it’ll stick one of these times. Heck, I still have the last installment of my bike wreck essay to finish once I’m well enough. In the interim, I’ll try and peek in at fb and see what you’re doing when I can, maybe leave a comment from time to time until my couch calls me. I have the worlds softest pillow and my Walton’s episodes recorded for when I can muster a modicum of interest. I greatly appreciate all your support and caring, and know you’ll forgive me for not responding to your messages just yet. I do go back and look at all your “likes” and comments - sometimes twice. You give me a good measure of strength and pleasure, and bring a smile to my face to know I have such fine friends. Love ya.
