Howdy fellow designers! Ive just completed some preliminary playtesting for my current design: The Intrepid Alconauts: The Retro Space Adventure Card (and Drinking!) Game. Now Im now looking for blind playtesters to try out the PnP version of the game, or at least look over the instruction manual and offer some tips. This group and the BGG design forums have been a huge help to me during the design process and Im hoping that some of you might be interested in trying out a very unique, challenging, and hilariously fun game! Ive included all the game info below, but heres a quick heads-up: The Intrepid Alconauts is completely card-based and plays similar to games like Munchkin and Killer Bunnies. It does, however, contain much more skill, strategy, team work, and deterministic conflict resolution, and much less luck. There are RPG-like elements, cooperative gameplay, and a healthy portion of backstabbing! The best part is, its also a drinking party game! The artwork (20% completed, samples posted below) is authentic vintage comic art from the 1940s and 50s, which is fitting since the game takes place in an alternate history of the 1950s. Read below for more info! If youre interested in becoming a playtester (or offering to read over the rules), I have the rules and PnP files in a dropbox link. Just message me on here or on BGG (Ill post the forum link below) for more information! Thanks everyone! BGG forum post: boardgamegeek/thread/1138632/playtesters-appreciated-the-intrepid-alconauts-a BACKSTORY: It is the dawn of the atomic age! In the aftermath of the Second World War, Earth’s resources have become severely depleted. In desperation, the world’s greatest scientists have created a fantastic new device known as the Metatomic Reaction Chamber, which utilizes the human body’s own metabolism to create atomic energy. Using this technology to power their fantastic devices and starships, a band of courageous space explorers have turned their gaze to the stars in search of a new planet to serve as humanity’s salvation. Their name, The Intrepid Alconauts! GAME INFORMATION: Players: 4 to 10 Game Length: 45 to 75 minutes depending on familiarity Mechanics: Hand Management, Card Tableau, Variable Teams, Card Drafting, Variable Player Powers GAME OVERVIEW: THE INTREPID ALCONAUTS is a card-based space adventure drinking game for 4 to 10 players. Players take the role of daring space explorers and team up aboard Starships to face dangerous and thrilling challenges. Riches and fame await those who persevere, but those who lack the necessary skills or equipment face certain death. You, the player, through the consumption of beverages, power all Starships and technology in The Intrepid Alconauts! The Intrepid Alconauts consists of two phases of gameplay: The Briefing Phase (preparation), and the Mission Phase (facing encounters). The Briefing Phase has the players recharging their equipment, refilling their drinks, and drawing a new Star Command Card, which puts a new game rule into effect for the following Mission. During the Mission Phase players search for new planets to survey in hopes of finding one that Star Command will choose as humanity’s new home. Players draw Encounter cards and use their equipment, skills, and teamwork to overcome them. They will receive Salvage Cards as a reward, which can be used to tackle future Encounters. If players fail to resolve the Encounter, they receive wounds to themselves or damage to their Starship. After five missions have been completed, a final Star Command card is revealed, showing which planet Earth will colonize. The Starship that managed to survey that planet becomes the winner. Remember, since all technology relies on drinking, an empty drink means that your equipment won’t work!
