Howdy folks! It is Wednesday and time for another song of the week here on the EJ fanpage. This week we tip our hats to the amazing Ramblin Jack Elliot and feature his incredible version of Muleskinner Blues from the Johnny Cash TV show (along with Randy Scruggs and Norman Blake!). Be sure to check out his yodel at about 4 minutes into this cut. I believe that at one time, it was the longest recorded yodel of all time. Ramblin Jack is a true American treasure. He sings and plays with big balls. He is the link between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. Check out some of Dylans early material and compare it to Jacks stuff from the 60s and youll see there is no doubt about it. Some even called Bob something like little Jack or Jack Jr. back in the early 60s. A documentary on his life directed by his daughter called The Ballad of Ramblin Jack is worth a ride.
