Howell Twp-A 15-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle Monday evening, July 28th, at approximately 5:57pm. The crash occurred on Friendship Road in the area of Powder Horn Drive. Matthew Cassano, age 20 of Howell was traveling southbound on Friendship Road in the area of Powderhorn Drive in a 2008 Honda Civic. Two other vehicles were stopped on Friendship Road northbound waiting to make a left turn onto Powderhorn Dr. As Cassano negotiated a curve, in the area of Powderhorn Dr, a 15 year old male from Howell entered the roadway from behind the 2 stopped vehicles. Cassano activated his brakes and swerved to the right, but was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian. The juvenile (pedestrian) was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for his injuries. Due to the severity of the crash, Monmouth County SCART was activated. Howell Officers Matthew Waryasz and Matthew Cherney are investigating. No charges have been filed at this time.
