Howers Laser Cartridge Tip of the Day: Removing Paper Jams Removing paper jams. I get calls from prospective clients regarding paper jams on a weekly basis. I actually try to get them to help themselves first in finding and removing the paper jam on their own if possible so as to save themselves a service call fee. Here is what I tell them to do. 1. Note how the paper runs through their printer. This called the paper path. I tell them to look along this path the paper runs through and visually assess if there is any obvious paper stuck anywhere to be seen. To do this they must open the top remove the printer cartridge and open any doors on the printer. 2. If they are able to locate the offending paper jam, always remove it in the direction that the paper naturally runs along that path. If this is not possible, go ahead and gently try pulling back on the paper that is jammed. Please notice that if you get the paper / page out that it is not missing any pieces. If it is missing any of the page, they will need myself or a qualified tech to come out and get the rest of the page out of the machine by taking apart the required assemblies. 3. Another thing the client can try is turning off the printer and then back on to start fresh. Then either try reprinting the page OR using the on board Paper Path Test Page function many printers are equipped with, making note as to if a page was actually picked up out of the printers paper tray. Sometimes the printers pickup rollers can be worn out and really never picks up the paper. When the page does not run through certain sensors along the paper path in a determined amount of time it will error out and read that you have a paper jam. If this is noted then your service tech will need to be called out to replace those worn out rollers. 4.
