Hubris! Many will look at the story and say oh thats very special but I find it repugnant. Ultimately, Scheibner believes his life was spared that day so he could work to “change the American culture for the cause of Christ.” Tom McGinnis sat in Scheibners chair that day and is dead! This man finds solace by saying that God saw him as more valuable than Tom McGinnis and that Scheibner had something to offer and Tom McGinnis didnt so Tom McGinnis was sacrificed in his place because God had important things for him to do. Now maybe thats not what he intends to say but I dont see any other way to interpret this. This is the ugly thing that happens when you try to look for a divine reasons behind horrible, tragic events.
