Huff Po Writer Discredits Liberalism and Doesnt Even Realize it. Liberals have their heads so far up their asses that they can’t recognize the truth, even when they stumble across it themselves, even as they write entire paragraphs that discredit the very notions that they have taken for granted as being true, for decades. Quite a few conservative pundits and bloggers have commented on this recent article in the Huffington Post, but even they, failed to see what immediately struck me. Let’s check out a little bit of it right here: Darron T. Smith, Ph.D. Professor She Looks Black, but Her Politics Are Red: What Mia Loves Victory Means for the Face of the GOP Loves political convictions show a strong support for values that do not necessarily represent her interests as a member in any of these oppressed groups. For example, blacks are not doing well with respect to education, economics and health outcomes, while women still trail behind in salary and significant positions of power, and conservative politics are not typically known to aid these groups in such key issues. These actualities of Mias existence seem to be diametrically opposed to her values that are grounded in a white, male, Christian context. She appears publicly unhampered by the daily grind of white racism that affects other racial minorities within the United States. Unlike most of them, Mia gets to walk through the hallowed doorways of white institutions controlled by elite, powerful men. She is allowed to pass through in her black, female body with the understanding that she must not see, speak or openly advocate for anything related to race or gender -- an unholy compromise. Hence, she might look black, but her politics are red. This is one way white privilege is reproduced at the legislative level of government. In fact, Mia, along with other notable black conservatives such as Allen West, Michael Steele, Amy Holmes, Alan Keyes and Tim Scott, subscribe to a party that rejects any notion of systemic racism as a central cause of black suffering within its basic tenets of individualism. What many conservatives fail to recognize is that individuals are connected to larger groups, and the group in which these Black Republicans belong persistently lags behind in every major social indicator. It says “professor”, as if the letters Ph.D. after his name might not automatically give him enough credibility. By now, simply being a professor, or having a post graduate degree, should never automatically give anyone credibility. We’ve all seen too many examples of professors saying and doing outrageous things to just give them a pass on that. I believe this reverence for professors stems from two things. First, they are all living off the carcass of a reputation that was earned back when professors had to meet and live up to, much higher standards than they do today. (Think of the stereotypical professor in an old black and white movie.) Second, many of us who attended, college recall the days when a professor was god. (At least in the very small worlds of whatever classes you may have been enrolled in.) They held the power. They were in control of whether you passed or failed, got an A or a B. or received credit for a particular answer on an exam. Many former college students have never gotten over this. In their eyes, the professor is still the all powerful being with all the answers that will be accepted as correct. Most of us however, learn as we mature, that professors are fallible, and our professor Darron T. Smith, who wrote this, certainly is. He is so stuck on the idea that Mia Love is just some token minority, put in place by the Republicans to make themselves appear to be diverse, that he is blinded to any other possibilities.
