Huffington Post UK reports that if you want to live longer and feel healthier you might want to book a one way ticket to Iceland. A Channel Four documentary The Worlds Best Diet revealed Iceland as the healthiest nation thanks to their food combination of fresh fish, high quality meat and dairy products. The UK failed to make the top 10 - England came out at number 34 whilst Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were even further behind at 35, 36 and 37. A Mediterranean diet seemed to be the way forward, though. The Food Doctor says, here are the top 5 Mediterranean Food Swaps: • Bin the vegetable oil and swap to cooking with olive oil - cooking more gently at lower temperatures will help to preserve the benefits of this healthy oil • Dip your bread – rather than smearing bread with butter or margarine, drizzle your bread with a little olive oil or try dipping it in oil and vinegar • Cut back on high fat dairy products and meat - increase your intake or vegetables, wholegrains and fish instead • Dress you salad – exchange mayonnaise and salad cream for an olive oil based vinaigrette or half an avocado • Snack on nuts – almonds, macademia nuts and cashews are the highest in monounsaturates
